Landscapes is a documentary that investigates the space between abstraction and recognition by experimenting with focus to render specific effects in the natural world. Its central concept is to reflect on the moment at which an object becomes recognizable, asking what it means to look closer at the nature in things—the sub-particles, the micro-life in the grand. Set throughout various landscapes across northern California, Landscapes’ approach pays particular attention to the relationships between light, wind, and texture, with the greater intention to question how what one focuses on affects the very nature of perception.
